William Andresen Obituary

Dr. William "Bill" Andresen, 88, passed peacefully at Benedictine Living Community on March 13, 2025. He was both a passionate student and teacher all of his days.

Born on January 29, 1937 to William and Christine (Weber) Andresen, Bill spent his small town childhood in Lyons NE on interests he would pursue for a lifetime - hunting, baseball, pets and science.

While studying biology at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Bill met his true love and best friend, Alice (Elbracht). Married in 1960, they soon moved to Washington DC where Bill conducted cancer research at the National Institutes of Health. He and Alice would welcome three children - Christine, Tom and Theresa - before returning to Lincoln to complete both his doctorate and their young family with the arrival of daughter Kate.

Bill was among the earliest faculty at Missouri Western State College (now University). Beloved as a tough but engaging instructor, Bill made a profound impact for three decades as pre-professional adviser to students who would become nurses and doctors.

Blowing the dust off the bookish professor stereotype, Bill was also an avid motorcyclist. He rode and rallied across the country with the MO-KAN Guzzi Club beginning in 1990.

Bill and Alice were Founding Members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish where his roles included Eucharistic minister, lector, pre-Cana counselor, Knight of Columbus #571 and student of the Bible and history of Catholicism.

He was grateful for all the good in his life. He will be remembered by the many with whom he shared it.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; parents, William and Christine; brother Tom and sister-in-law Evelyn (Hron) Andresen; nephew Dan Courtney and son-in-law Larry Davis.

Survivors include children Christine Andresen, Tom (Lisa) Andresen, Theresa (Scott) Greiner and Kate (Frank Underwood) Davis; grandchildren Clif (Mariah) Davis, Corinne, Hayden and Adam Andresen, Ashlee Greiner and Tiffani Higgins; ten great grandchildren; nephew Tim Courtney and niece Judy (Eric) Thorson; Elbracht sisters-in-law Flory (Art) Renner, Wilma (Duane) Kantor and Jean (Rich) Sellhorst and many nieces and nephews.
